The Portsmouth Culinary Association (PCA) is proud to announce the inaugural Portsmouth Chef of the Year 2026, a prestigious new competition celebrating the city’s exceptional culinary talent. This landmark event will shine a spotlight on Portsmouth’s growing food scene, showcasing the creativity, craftsmanship, and community spirit that define its chefs.
Set to take place in Spring 2026, the competition will feature two categories — Portsmouth Chef of the Year and Young Chef of the Year — inviting both established professionals and emerging talent to compete for recognition as the region’s finest.
Celebrating Local Culinary Excellence
Founded by Chef Samuel Mabe, the Portsmouth Culinary Association was created to connect, inspire, and empower the city’s chefs and hospitality professionals. The Chef of the Year competition marks a major milestone in the Association’s mission to promote excellence, sustainability, and collaboration within the local food industry.
“Portsmouth is home to an incredible pool of culinary talent,” says Chef Mabe. “This competition isn’t just about finding a winner — it’s about uniting our chefs, sharing knowledge, and showcasing the passion that drives our city’s food culture.”
Competition Structure
The competition will unfold across five phases:
- Applications & Nominations (January–February 2026):
Chefs will be invited to apply or be nominated by peers, mentors, or employers. Entrants will submit sample menus, photos, and a short culinary profile. - Preliminary Judging (March 2026):
A panel of industry experts will shortlist finalists based on creativity, technical skill, presentation, and the use of local ingredients. - Mentorship & Preparation (April–May 2026):
Finalists will be paired with experienced mentors from the PCA network to refine their dishes and presentation ahead of the live event. - Live Final Event (June 2026):
The shortlisted chefs will compete in front of judges, media, and invited guests, creating signature dishes under timed conditions. - Awards Ceremony & Networking:
Winners will be announced in an evening celebration, with trophies, certificates, and press coverage — followed by a networking reception uniting chefs, sponsors, and industry partners.
